Life at ResultsCX
Ireland
Starting your first job in a new profession is a big transition and can be daunting at times. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by a mix of excitement and apprehension. We all experience uncertainty in the face of a new challenge and although our emotions can indicate otherwise, it’s often a sign you’re headed in the right direction. Our employees, like countless others, are no exception to this.
Your environment, virtual or otherwise, is pivotal in the early stages of this new chapter in your life. Being around people that are willing to support you because they’ve been exactly where you are is an invaluable asset when starting a new career. Let’s take a look at some tips on how to hit the ground running from our own colleagues here at ResultsCX Ireland.
#1 Amelia: The most foolish questions are those that were never asked
Amelia joined us early in 2024 and is one of our newest recruiters. Since then, she’s become a valued member of the team using the many transferrable skills acquired from her prior experience as a psychologist.
A key reason why Amelia has established herself so quickly is her ability to ask questions. The sentiment of a quote from the renowned philosopher Confucius, “Those who ask questions are fools for a minute, those who do not are fools for life”, is her work mantra. This perspective has helped Ameilia to fast track her professional development while also aiding the formation of positive work relationships by interacting with her colleagues.
#2 Vincenza: Understanding and Balance
Vincenza became an RCX Ireland BDR in October of 2023 and has quickly become a crucial member of our Italian campaigns. Due to her friendly nature and genuine desire to help people, she’s worked multiple support roles in the past. Since joining, she’s been able to find a balance which compliments her active lifestyle and emphasises the importance of this to others.
Understanding
The first step to balance is understanding, it’s difficult to switch off outside of work if you don’t understand what’s expected of you and what you should expect in your role. What’s expected of you is often covered in the hiring process. However, what to expect is rarely explored in such detail. In the case of working as a BDR, Vincenza uses the example of interacting with an abrupt customer and the importance of understanding it isn’t personal.
While it’s not the typical interaction, at some point you’ll encounter something similar if working in a customer facing role. Vincenza reminds us that customers are people, and like people, they have bad days. They could be dealing with a product or service issue influenced by external factors, or they could be answering you while in the midst of a personal struggle. The important thing is to keep your cool and remember that it truly isn’t personal. This understanding is a valuable resource when keeping your work and personal life separate.
“Taking steps to effectively separate your professional and personal life in your mind should come before doing so in your calendar”
When this is achieved, you can create a work/life balance that works for you to full effect.
Balance
While it’s tempting to push your limits, particularly early on, it’s more rewarding in the long run to create a balance that you can sustain over time. It’s fine to put in extra time in mitigating circumstances but making it a habit will quickly decrease your performance.
“Don’t let your work life affect your personal life and don’t let your personal life affect your work life”, is Vincenza’s work motto, and makes sure to live by it!
#3 Barbara: Time Management and Trusting the Process
Barbara started with RCX Ireland in August 2023 and has already progressed to becoming a senior agent. While opinions still vary over employee performance in a remote setting versus traditional working models, current research is abundantly clear that workers are far happier when given flexibility in how they work. As a company, we want our colleagues to perform, and we want them to be happy and we trust them to choose how they work. Barbara is one example this in action, taking the new flexibility afforded to her as an opportunity to flourish in a new company.
“What’s for you won’t pass you”, is a quote Barbara likes to bring to work with her.
A large portion of her success can be attributed to her time management skills, engaging with internal development pathways, and trusting her efforts wouldn’t go unrewarded. These three factors partnered with her consistent hard work allowed Barbara to optimise her performance in a remote environment. When the opportunity arose for a new senior agent, she trusted the internal development processes she had completed prior and got the promotion she deserved.
Starting a new job is an exciting time filled with new possibility. It’s also a little scary sometimes too, most things worth doing are. Whatever it is you decide to do, we hope this was helpful and wish you the very best in your new endeavour.
